Deadline approaching

Friday’s deadline is quickly approaching and so stress levels are running high to make our project reach its full potential. Since it is our last week with the project, that also means we’re updating for the last time.

Adjustments
We pitched our solution Friday last week and received a lot of helpful feedback. Time is limited so close to printing as well as the deadline and so we devoted the weekend as well as Monday entirely to adjusting the design. We made a new box for the pralines to better compliment the other package. We also took away the white box on the front and back of both boxes, which elevated our solution in a new way. Because of this the text is now only in white on the packaging as opposed to black and white.

Above are the first boxes we printed with the mimaki printer.

Problems in print
Tuesday and Wednesday, we’ve been printing our project. We experienced quite a few difficulties. We chose a new paper we were unaware was larger by two centimeters. This meant one document was pushed to the side and our sides did not match up. To get it right, we remade the print and adjusted the document’s placement in the mimaki’s settings.

We remade the logo as well because in print our previous one came with a gray box beneath it. It hadn’t before been visible so it confused us, even more so when it showed up a second time when we had already taken care of the problem (or so we thought).

Third time’s the charm
Finally, on our third try we managed to get everything in the right place and without mysterious gray boxes. We are relieved and very happy with the end result of our project.

However we still have a few things left to do before our work is over. By Friday we need to finish a manual for our designs and in two weeks we pitch our idea a second and final time.

We hope you have enjoyed following our first venture into packaging design and the different turns our project has taken along the way.
