Sausage of Falun week 3

Week 3. Package design.

This week we’ve made some changes to the design of our package. To mention a few, the opening mechanism is a bit different and we’ve made some “cuts” in the paperboard which form the shape of the sausage. This is clearly visible in the picture below. The package still opens from the base. Size-wise the whole thing is a bit smaller than before, measuring 22,5 centimeters wide.

Graphical design

The last few days we’ve been working on the graphical design of our package. We’ve gone from illustrating the mashed potatoes and sausage to not illustrating them. Photographs or illustrations just didn’t make us want to buy and eat the dish.

At the moment, the two things showing the consumer what the package contains is the shape of the sausage (and the shape of the package) and the text on it. We’ve focused on a red color because we want to make the dish feel heat- and eatable, and not just like some frozen block of food. The design below is a much more brown color than the color we use today.

The advertisment

In our ad we want to concentrate on the shape of the package and it’s distinctive golden markings. The yellow figures will be cut out of the package and replaced with golden paper. The ad doesn´t say what the dish is because we want to attract attention and make the shape recognisable in grocery stores.

The words “Gyllene kärlek” means “Golden love” and refer to the color when the sausage gets browned in an oven. The “love” is for the love of Sweden and it’s national dish. The illustration below is not the final version, but will be photographed later on.

Brochure

The idea for our brochure is consistent with our main idea for the package design. We want people to be able to recognise that the brochure is about Scan’s sausage of Falun, without having to use all of their mental ability. Therefore the brochure has adopted the shape of the package and some of it’s characteristic colors and personality. This is a simple illustration of the idea. The left picture is the thing that will keep the actual brochure in place, the casing, whereas the right one is the shape of the brochure.
