Doing our bug packaging test print

So on Friday we had our test print on the Mimaki printer like we talked about last time. We did struggle a bit, of course… First of all we misunderstood our teacher so we had the wrong format on our document. When we finally had fixed everything, the printer printed our design 3 cm offset… So some parts of our design ended up outside of the cardboard. Oops.

And some parts didn’t even get printed. Also our teacher forgot to coat it, so because of all the failures we got the chance to print again (yay!). Fortunately everything went well this time, so we could finally get a chance to see our design in its true glory!

Test print results

Because of our chance to do a test print, we got to see a glimpse of what our actual packages will look like when they’re finished, which was a really big and fun step to take. We got a chance to test different colors, designs and typography which made us take some big decisions about our designs! For example we now have decided on which green color we want to go with. We also decided what color on the font we want to have – we decided on white on the frontside and black on the backside. We also got a chance to test the design we want to have on the inside of the packages and we came to the decision to do a mix of the two designs. Now the things that are left to do is to find a way to imprint our leaf-design and to create more air between the text and the leaf. We also have to work on the test pitch we’re gonna have on Wednesday and start on our graphic manual. It feels like we’re on the right track and hopefully we will be finished in time for our big pitch next Friday!
