New Food – A Bug Packaging Project

Vernissage Friday 6 November, 2015

In a recently published report from the UN agricultural organization, “Edible insects – future prospects for food and feed insecurity”, the conclusion is that eating throughout the Western world must change drastically. By 2050 the population of the Earth will be over 9.6 billion. One billion are hungry today, while the planet is stressed by our consumption and our waste of resources.

It is already impossible for the vast majority of people get their primary protein intake from meat products. Instead, it is time that more people begin to eat some of the more than 1,900 edible insect species in the world. And today already eat 8 to 10 persons insects regularly (www.fao.org/docrep/018/i3253e/i3253e.pdf ). In Sweden, however, is not as common. Yet.

This year’s packaging design projects are about to package insects for a commercial market. How does it look when insects are marketed commercially? And how can a package be a part of changing the consumer patterns? For the environment. For the many people.
