Bladverket–Design process week four

Hello from Bladverket!

Hope everybody have had a fun fourth week! Tilda and I had a very eventful week with a lot of design decisions and form solutions.

We started our week by making a array of different candles with our selected rosemary scent. We have never done this before so the whole process was really exiting! The first thing we did was to acquire the products we needed to make the candles and then we met up to actually produce them. It took us a while to actually make it work as well that we wanted it to go, both look wise and scent wise, but it all resolved itself in the end! We will show the process below:

As you guys can see its a very plan-intensive thing to make candles with a lot of materials and a lot of trial and error, but we did actually make a decent looking and awesome smelling candle in the end!

We also spent our time this week working on a lot of pattern and color designs. We did one color scheme for the candle-idea and another one for the plant-idea that has a similar design language and typographical style that connects the two products under the same producer name. Its very gratifying to actually starting to see the design coming together on both designs!

The fist picture is the design process of the pattern for the plant-box idea and the other two pictures featured above is an arrange of different pattern designs and color ideas for the jar-idea. On the latter two pictures we figured out that we love yellow, but we don’t like chicken yellow at all. This reflection resulted in that we realized that it would be smarter to make a more “muddier” yellow that goes better with our all around aestethic. The final pattern and color palette that we want on our finished product is based on this reflection. You guys can see the development of the design on the packaging and the products insides illustrated in the picture below: We wanted to make a design on the outside as well as on the inside that was together but still separated and we figured it would be nice to make the inside brown and the outside white to make our design aspiration work both with the environment we want to sell it and with the product within the packaging. Because our jar is brown we thought it would be smart to keep it that way on the inside and keep it white and clean on the outside to make it possible to work with patterns and colors and not be limited by the brown color of the card board in the pattern and color decision process.

During this week we have focused a lot on the all around typography and the message we want to portray through our design. Its hard to say everything we want to say without making the design too busy. Also when it comes to actually portraying the products multi-functionality has been hard concerning how we could do this without being too descriptive. We did find a solution to this problem by making symbols with a very simple metaphorical language to symbolize the products function. Examples will be shown below. We have had a really fun week! Hopefully you guys have had a good and creative week! Now Tilda and I will take a well deserved weekend free of work and devoid of cutting paper and cardboard talk!

Have a nice weekend!
xoxoxo,
