All new prototype, all new design

Bonjour everyone! The changes we have made since Friday is crazy. The work we have put into those changes is even crazier. I think since Monday we have spent at least 12 hours in school every day just to finish. We lost absolutely no time and worked very effectively. So what is it that we did, you wonder? Well… get ready to read.

A total re-design

After we finished publishing our blog post on Friday we jumped right in to brainstorming again. In just a couple of hours we managed to get a totally different idea than we originally had, by looking through the packages from past years designs. We began looking through the pinboard on Pinterest once again and sketched a whole lot. We measured, sketched, measured again and discussed ideas for new patterns. Should we even make a new pattern? Is there time?! We decided that it was. If we were going to start over fresh – we were going to do it all the way. Friday afternoon was spent in my(Phelicias) apartment, where I began working on the hand made aquarelle pattern and Felicia began making our new design plan. A whole new design was really happening.

Six pictures captured during the last few days of working. Number 5 and 6 was captured late last night!

From Monday to Thursday

After we took the weekend off, due to other plans, Monday was a day we prepared for in advanced. I finished the pattern and Felicia finished the design plan. Since the pattern was made by hand I had to scan it in to the computer and then make some changes in Photoshop. Felicia worked on the exhibition poster and started to make the design manual. By the end of the day the pattern was ready for use, the new outer design of the package was in progress, the design plan was printed, the poster was almost done and our design manual was also in progress.

On Tuesday we worked on so many things that I can’t even remember them all. There were so many small details that kept showing up that we needed to change. It was crazy. What I do know is when I went to bed the design of the product packages was totally changed, the outer design was all done, the design manual was only missing photos of the finished package and the prototype was in great progress. During the day we tried to make the prototype in two different types of cardboards, and went with the thinnest of the two.

What did we do on Wednesday? On the inside of the package we have actually decided to have a fresh green colored paper and that is one of the main things I worked on yesterday. Measuring, cutting and gluing the green paper on to the inner walls and into the box. Felicia made some final touches to everything and printed both the outer designs and the product packages so that we could glue and place them inside. The prototype is FINISHED. It feels so great to write that… you really have no idea. Anyway – when we had the finished prototype we photographed it and placed the pictures in to the design manual and declared it ready for printing.

This means that today is a day for printing yet another thing. And for preparing the speech for the pitch tomorrow. TOMORROW? Really? Yes. Tomorrow. The days are passing by so fast I can’t even tell what day it is. I am sure I have failed to remember some of the details in our process but my brain is mush. I’ll finish the blogging by saying that this has been the craziest days by far, and also the most funny ones. We had fun, we worked together and we freakin’ made it. We are very pleased with the new design. Even more pleased over the fact all our hard work paid off.

Enjoy the pictures below!
